Porthtowan is one of the UK's top surfing beaches, bordered by soft white sand and rolling dunes. There is a large car park close to the beach and a number of shops, cafes and bars. One of the most popular with both visitors and locals is the Blue Bar, situated just at the edge of the beach.

In the bar's chilled out surroundings, relax with a drink, some good food and watch the sunset over the ocean. A Lifeguard service operates daily from May to September. Toilets are located in the beach car park.

Dogs are banned on this beach from Easter Sunday until 30th September inclusive but can be taken onto it from 1st October to Easter Saturday. Please clear up after your dog if it fouls the beach or its surroundings.

Porthtowan Walks

There are plenty of walks in and around Porthtowan. You can go up either side of the beach and discover the cliffs both towards Portreath or back towards Chapel Porth. From Chapel Porth you can then wander up the valley by the natural stream, or take the cliff route again past St Agnes Head and towards Trevaunance Cove.
